It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Pauline McGourty (née Rowe) on April 5, 2026, at the CHUS Hôtel-Dieu in Sherbrooke, Québec.
Pauline enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a teacher, instructing students from kindergarten through high school. Her career took her to many places—beginning in the Shawinigan area, then to the military base in Valcartier, followed by two years teaching in France, and later to Montreal and Toronto. It was in Toronto that she married Robert McGourty, the love of her life.
Following her retirement, Pauline and Bob moved to the Eastern Townships, settling in North Hatley where they formed lasting friendships and enjoyed being closer to family, before moving to Sherbrooke and enjoying everything the city had to offer. Together, they cherished winters spent in Florida with family and summers in Prince Edward Island with friends.
Pauline was an avid knitter and took great pride in the many tuques she donated to the Cancer Society and church sailor boxes.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Bob; her brothers Bruce (Caroline) and Gordon; her sister Phyllis (late George); and her nephew Bob (Ruth). Pauline leaves to mourn her nieces and nephews Steven, Lynn, Catherine, Anne, and Susan, as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews. She will also be fondly remembered by her brother-in-law Brian, his wife Anne, and their children.
A service will be held and announced by the family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Thomas Westbury Cemetery Maintenance Fund, c/o Mr. James Sweeny, Treasurer, P.O. Box 495, Waterville, QC J0B 3H0.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the compassionate staff at Grace Village in Lennoxville, as well as to the staff on the 5th floor of the CHUS Hôtel-Dieu, for their exceptional care, kindness, and empathy.
